The chooks
Free ranging
During the day, our girls free range. They eat grass and bugs and lounge in the sun and dust bathe, of course! At night they are locked in their coop for safety. These are our Leghorns and our Red Stars.
Their home
The coop
The chickens live in a framed wood house complete with electricity (lights and ceiling fan), hurricane windows, and doors.
Inside the coop
Curtains for privacy on the nest boxes, pine logs as roosts make this a comfy safe place at night or when the weather isn't nice.
Their run
Their run is 50x11x12 and is built with hardware cloth panels, some of which are buried as deep as four feet to protect them from predators.
